Multiple people wounded in Wisconsin mall shooting in US, suspect at large | Trending News in India Trending News in India

WISCONSIN: A suspect was at large after multiple people were wounded in an ‘active shooter incident’ at a suburban shopping mall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday (November 20).

The shooting took place outside a Macy’s department store at the Mayfield Mall in Wauwatosa, a Milwaukee suburb of 47,000 people, according to local authorities.

Seven adults and one teenager were transported to the hospital, Wauwatosa Chief of Police Barry Weber said in a statement, but the extent of their injuries was unknown.

The shooter left the scene by the time emergency responders arrived, Weber said, and remained at large.

Police described him as a white male in his twenties or thirties.

Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride said in a statement earlier Friday none of the injuries appeared life-threatening. He added that 75 police officers were on the scene.

Live TV shots on local ABC affiliate WISN12 showed dozens of police vehicles with flashing lights outside Macy`s and video posted to Twitter showed paramedics wheeling people out of the mall on stretchers.

Several customers interviewed by local media said shoppers and mall employees were locked inside the mall but were safe. One said her sister – a mall employee – heard about 15 shots.

Asteroid as big as Burj Khalifa to fly by earth at 56,000mph on November 29 | Trending News in India Trending News in India

NEW DELHI: Just a few days before the year 2020 ends, December will be witnessing a flyby of a massive asteroid. An asteroid, said to be 0.51 kilometres in diameter and as tall as the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa of Dubai, is set to pass within 4,302,775 km of Earth.

NASA has confirmed that the asteroid named 153201 2000 WO107, will barrel past Earth on Sunday, November 29 and is currently speeding though space at a whopping 56,000mph. It’s terrifyingly huge as its size ranges anywhere between 12,00ft to 2,5700ft across (370m and 820m).

It is set to make its close approach at 1:08 a.m. on Sunday.

Burj Khalifa is the tallest man-made structure in the world and stands at an astonishing height of 2,720 feet (829 m), according to The Measure of Things. 2000 WO107’s diameter is an intimidating 2,690 feet (820 m).

As per spacereference.org, has been classified as a Near Earth Asteroid (NEA) as it will come within 1.3 astronomical miles of Earth, in addition to being dubbed as a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid. Notably, scientists in New Mexico had discovered this asteroid on November 29, 2000, and they have been tracking it ever since.

Given the huge size and length of the asteroid, there are of course, reasons to worry. If this particular asteroid ends up entering the Earth’s atmosphere and making an impact, the results would no doubt be catastrophic. However, thankfully, NASA has said that that there’s zero chance of the asteroid actually hitting our planet, as it’s classed as an NEA.

As per NASA, asteroids are ‘rocky, airless remnants left over from the early formation of our solar system about 4.6 billion years ago’ and states that there’s approximately 1,031,488 of them to date.

Explained: Why Antony Blinken's appointment as US Secretary of State is a bad news for Pakistan, China | Trending News in India Trending News in India

US President-elect Joe Biden on Monday (November 23) appointed Antony Blinken as new US Secretary of State and Jake Sullivan as National Security Advisor.

The 58-year-old Blinken served as Deputy Secretary of State under President Barack Obama, while 43-year-old Blinken served as the Head of Policy Planning at the State Department under Hillary Clinton.

A look through Blinken’s recent statements about India shows that his appointment as US Secretary of State is a welcome news for India and a bad news for Pakistan.

On July 9, Blinken addresses a gathering at the Hudson Institute, Washington DC and said. “Strengthening and deepening the relationship with India is going to be a very high priority. It’s usually important to the future of the Indo-Pacific and the kind of order that we all want; it’s fair, stable, and hopefully increasingly democratic and it’s vital to being able to tackle some of these big global challenges,” he said.

“By the way, I think this has been over Republican and Democratic administrations’ success story, going back to the Clinton administration, the Bush administration and then the Obama-Biden administration,” he said.

Talking about Biden’s contribution, Blinke had said, “During the Bush administration, then Senator Biden partnered with that administration to help get the peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement, the 123 agreement through the United States Senate, usually important to solidifying our relationship,” Blinken said.

Blinken also mentioned how during Obama administration, the US made India a “major defence partner”. “In our own administration, during the Obama-Biden administration, there was concrete progress across a whole series of initiatives and efforts under both Prime Minister Singh and then under Prime Minister Modi. There was this defence technology and trade initiative. The idea there was to kind of strengthen India’s defence industrial base and that then paved the way for American and Indian companies to work together to produce important technology. We made India a so-called major defence partner,” Blinken said.

On August 15, Blinken participated in a panel discussion on Indo-US ties and raised the issue of UN reforms. “In a Biden administration, we would be an advocate for India to play a leading role in international institutions and that includes helping India get a seat on a United Nations Security Council,” he said.

Talking about China’s aggressive policy, Blinken said, “We have a common challenge which has to deal with an increasingly assertive China across the board, including its aggression toward India at the Line of Actual Control but also using its economic might to coerce others and reap unfair advantage. I think you’d see Joe Biden as president investing in ourselves, renewing our democracy, working with our close partners like India, asserting our values and engaging China from a position of strength. India has to be a key partner in that effort.”

Blinken also talked about the issue of cross-border terrorism and said, “We would work together to strengthen India’s defence and also I might add its capabilities as a counterterrorism partner. On the question of terrorism, specifically, we have no tolerance for terrorism, in South Asia or anywhere else: cross-border or otherwise.”

'Do what needs to be done': Donald Trump finally clears way for Joe Biden's transition to White House | Trending News in India Trending News in India

US President Donald Trump on Monday (November 23) came his closest yet to admitting defeat in November 3 Presidential Election after General Services Administration (GSA), which was tasked with helping President-elect Joe Biden’s transition into the White House said it was finally lifting its block on assistance on Biden’s team.

Trump said that it was finally time for the GSA to “do what needs to be done.”

But in the same tweet, Trumop reiterated that he was still refusing to concede, saying: “Our case STRONGLY continues, we will keep up the good fight, and I believe we will prevail!”

But Trump’s decision to allow the GSA to work with the Biden transition team sends a signal message that he has accepted defeat in November 3 election and all his claims that elections were rigged lack credibility.

Biden’s transition team will now have access to funds, office space and they will now be able to hold meeting with federal officials.

“In the days ahead, transition officials will begin meeting with federal officials to discuss the pandemic response, have a full accounting of our national security interests, and gain complete understanding of the Trump administration’s efforts to hollow out government agencies,” Biden’s transition director Yohannes Abraham said in a statement.

It seems that Trump decided to end his resistance to accept Biden’s win after Michigan state certified its results and some influential supporters of Trump demanded that the impasse should end.

Earlier on Monday, Biden unveiled his cabinet full of veterans from the Barack Obama years. Foormer State Department number two Antony Blinken will now serve as US secretary of state.

Biden also named the first female head of intelligence, the first Latino chief of Homeland Security, the first woman as treasury secretary. He has appointed John Kerry to take care of climate issues.
